![]() ![]() Follower missions have little to no engagement factor as far as the story is concerned. What we’re focusing on here isn’t the content, of which there is plenty - we’re looking at the story, of which there is very little. Story, on the other hand, is content that you are actively engaged in beyond just pushing the buttons and keeping yourself amused - there’s an ongoing dialogue with it all to keep you entertained as you’re diligently completing your content. Things like garrison missions, PvP and to a certain degree raiding all fall under that content umbrella. Content doesn’t necessarily have to have story, it just has to be something suitably engaging. Content is something that you can do once you log into the game - it is an experience you can use to pass the time. Please note that there is a difference here in story and content. Draenor is a world that reeks of history, untold stories and mysteries that have yet to be discovered, much less solved, but we are floundering in our garrisons looking for some kind of meaning to it all. It’s even more strange because the leveling experience from 90-100 was so good - but once you hit level 100 and finish all zone quests, the narrative simply peters out. Which is why it’s so weird that right now, standing a little over three months into the expansion, I am desperately looking for a story that simply is not there. See what the Horde of old would look like if they’d turned away from drinking the blood of Mannoroth, instead choosing to stand on their own? That’s a story I can absolutely get behind. Experience draenei culture and lore before the massacre they suffered at the hands of the original iteration of the Horde? I’m all in. See these guys in their prime? Sign me up. ![]() The moment Grommash Hellscream crested the hill in the original announcement trailer for the expansion, I was hooked. These are names we should be excited about, and we were. Blackhand, Grommash Hellscream, Kilrogg Deadeye, Durotan, Kargath Bladefist, and many more. It introduced characters we’ve never seen in the context of Warcraft‘s MMO before, big names from the RTS games that preceded WoW. He created a number of portals, but this only served to destabilize Draenor, and the entire planet was torn asunder, leaving only the ravaged world of Outland.Warlords of Draenor ushered our characters back to the world of Draenor - a slightly altered, different version of Draenor, but Draenor nonetheless. Ner'zhul hastily tried to evacuate the remaining orcs to safety. The Alliance then charged through the Dark Portal, to ensure that no more horrors emerged. After years of fighting, the orcs were defeated by the newly created Alliance of Lordaeron. They then charged through the Dark Portal and attacked the unsuspecting human civilian population. The orc chieftans drank the demonic blood and became bloodthirsty beasts. Ner'zhul however, remembering the very dregs of whatever lingering honor he possessed, refused, and so Kil'Jaeden used his apprentice Gul'dan instead. He commanded Ner'zhul to make the orc chieftans drink the blood of the Pit Lord Mannoroth. There, Kil'Jaeden manipulated an orc named Ner'zhul to turn the orcs into savage monsters. They lived in peace for awhile, until Kil'Jaeden discovered Draenor for himself. There they had peaceful relations with the shamanistic orcs. Eventually they came across a world called Draenor. The Draenei fled to world after world, hounded by Kil'Jaeden's unrelenting pursuit. Velen and the race which would later be known as Draenei escaped as their brothers transformed into unspeakably horrific demonic beings. He was answered by the Naaru, who told him in time they would fight the Burning Legion, but for now they must run. Despite Velen's begging them to see sense, both Kil'jaeden and Archimonde accepted the fallen Titan's offer in his despair, Velen prayed for help. Kil'jaeden and Archimonde were tempted by his offer, but Velen, the wisest of the three, had a terrible vision of what his brothers would turn into. He promised them great power in return for their servitude. Millennia ago, the fallen Titan Sargeras contacted the three leaders of the Eredar race on Argus. ![]()
